What is infrared?
Infrared is one of the invisible light rays that we feel from the sun. Unlike UV rays (which are a different wavelength), it is completely safe. This healing heat is absorbed deeply into the body, which happens optimally at a wavelength of 9.4 microns. It is so safe that it is used to keep newborn babies warm in hospitals.
What’s the difference between a conventional sauna and an infrared sauna?
A traditional sauna heats up the air in the sauna cabin to around 80°C- 90°C. The hot air then heats your body up from the outside and your body then produces ‘water sweat’ to cool itself down.
The heat from your infrared sauna warms your body from within, whilst the air temperature stays at a comfortable 40°C-55°C degrees. This produces a deeper and more cleansing sweat that flushes toxins out of your body.
FAQ’S
It’s my first Infrared sauna, what should I expect?
When you arrive you’ll be greeted in reception by a CGM team member before being led to our Private Sauna room for your session. We’ll give you an in-depth introduction to the studio & explain how to use the sauna.
Sit back, relax and enjoy your sauna session. The key to infrared therapy is heating your body core and you will find that you sweat more sitting up in the sauna.
In the first 10 to 20 minutes, the infrared heat will start to stimulate the various systems in your body and you may start to sweat profusely. The timing will vary from person to person and from day to day, and some people sweat more easily than others. It’s very common for people not to start sweating for the first 15 to 20 minutes. For some people it may take several sessions for the infrared heat to begin the sweating process. Everyone is different.
It’s important to keep well hydrated, and we recommend you drink water before, during, and after your sauna session. Complimentary filtered water and tea is provided to help keep you hydrated.
How long are the Infrared sauna sessions?
Our Infrared Sauna sessions are 45minutes. The recommended time you actually spend in the sauna though is 20-30minutes and we recommend starting with shorter sessions (15-20minutes) and gradually increasing the length.
What do I need to bring?
We provide you with a complimentary towel, if you're a heavy sweater you might like to bring your own as well. You may also like to bring a bath robe or sarong too.
What do I wear in the sauna?
Swimwear.
Should I shower before or after my sauna session?
It’s best to be all natural for your sauna, so a hot shower before your session to wash off any products (make-up, body lotions etc) is a good idea, and it will also help to open up your pores.
Showers are available for your post sauna rinse, alternatively you might like to let you body temperature cool down naturally and shower when you get home.
can i bring a friend?
Yes, you are welcome to bring a friend, there is an additional cost of $10. Our sauna can comfortably fit up to 4 people. Just email or phone us to let us know prior to your booking.
Who should be careful when using an infrared sauna?
If you have any of the following conditions you should seek permission from a doctor prior to booking in your first session:
taking medications
under 18 years old
elderly
cardiovascular conditions
chronic conditions
pregnant women should avoid using the infrared sauna
