Frequently asked questions
WHAT IS PILATES?
Pilates is a system of mind-body conditioning that was created by German, Joseph Hubert Pilates in the early 20th century. Joseph Pilates created exercises that are performed using either a floor mat or a variety of specialised equipment, including the reformer. Pilates will teach you body awareness and healthy posture whilst enhancing physical strength, flexibility and coordination. Aside from the physical benefits it can reduce stress, improve mental focus and boost your sense of well-being. Pilates offers a solution to those with restricted mobility as well as to elite athletes. No matter what your age or fitness level Pilates can help you.
what type of yoga do you offer?
Our yoga classes are an authentic style vinyasa flow that connects hatha yoga postures in short flowing sequences. The yoga we teach is in the tradition of Sri T Krishnamacharya lineage, which is a therapeutic and holistic approach to create healing and well-being in the mind and body.
WHERE SHOULD I START?
Pilates and Yoga can be a great way to keep fit and healthy, if this is your goal then we recommend you start with our 2 WEEK INTRO PASS which includes access to all group classes to try over 14 days. Choose from Reformer Group classes, Mat Pilates, Barre, and Yoga classes.
Alternatively if you have any injuries, restricted mobility, are pre/post natal, or perhaps you have specific training goals then we recommend you try our Clinical Studio Pilates sessions. You’ll start by booking in your Initial Consult. During this 60 minute Private session we will complete a postural analysis, introduce you to the Pilates basics and discuss your specific goals so that moving forward we can tailor a perfect Pilates program just for you.
what FACILITIES are provided?
Our studio is conveniently located in the centre of Maroochydore in the Kon-Tiki centre, with direct access from the visitor car park on level one, complimentary 2hr parking is available on-site.
We have female and male bathrooms including showers, and are happy to provide you with a towel ($2 hire, collect from reception).
Pigeon holes and lockers are available for you to store your belongings.
Our studios are fully equipped and there is no need to bring anything to class, you are welcome to bring a sweat towel and water bottle (please no glass or ceramic though).
CAN I DO A GROUP REFORMER CLASS IF I HAVE NEVER DONE PILATES?
Yes you can, however for your safety before attending your first Group Reformer class you must come along to one of our Reformer Introduction classes. During your introduction session we will guide you through the foundations of Pilates, assess your mobility, and introduce you to our Reformer machines. As our Group Reformer classes are fast paced, they are best suited to those who are without any medical conditions.
I'VE DONE PILATES BEFORE, DO I STILL NEED TO ATTEND A REFORMER INTRODUCTION CLASS?
Yes, regardless of any previous experience we require all new clients to attend 1 Introduction class. This is for the safety and benefit of both you and us. During your introduction class we collect all necessary information about you including your past medical history, and it allows us to assess your needs and goals. By attending this introduction class you will experience the best possible instruction and personalised guidance moving forward.
DO I NEED TO BOOK?
We highly recommend you do. Our classes are capped to ten for Reformer Pilates and 20 for Mat and Yoga classes and they can book out. The CGM timetable is released 14 days in advance so we recommend getting into a good habit of booking your classes in early.
HOW DO I BOOK?
Use our convenient online booking system to book a class. If it is your first visit with us you will be asked to register/create an account with us. If you would like to try our Reformer Pilates classes you will need to book into a Reformer Introduction class before being able to attend any other Reformer class. Once you have created your account you can book anytime online or via the mind body app on your smartphone or tablet.
If you'd like some help making your first booking please feel free to call us on 07 5408 5030 or email info@cgmpilates.com.
